What Are Sea Scouts?

Sea Scouts are committed to the values and ethos of the Scout Association. We do put a little more emphasis on marine and water based activities in our meetings and camps. More info can be found HERE

How Can I join?

Just come along on the night the that the Beavers(Tuesdays), Cubs (Tuesdays)or Scouts (Fridays) meet and speak to one of the leaders.

How Often Do You Have Meetings?

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts meet once a week, we do not meet during the Easter and half term school breaks. During the year there are various extra activities within the group and district. Such as, quiz nights, swimming galas, five a side football matches and many others.

What Happens At The Meetings?

We start with in uniform with "Flag break" and patrol inspections. Then we change out of uniform into rough kit and take part in games and activities all designed to be enjoyable whilst teaching scouting skills. Finally at the end of the evening we make any announcements, awards badges and then lower the flag.

What are Patrols and Sixes?

Patrols are how scouts are grouped into "teams". the consist of a patrol leader (PL), assistant patrol leader (APL) and three or four other scouts. The patrol is there to support each other and to promote cooperation and team spirit. There is a similar system in the Cubs but they are called Sixes.

How Much Does It Cost?

The subs for each meeting is £2.00. This charge includes the cost of purchasing badges, materials and sundry items for meetings. Camps are subsidised and are run as cheaply as possible and have a nominal fee . Other costs involved would be for the uniform and some of the occasional events.

How often do you go camping?

Both Cubs and Scouts go on a main Summer camp. There are usually a few weekend or overnight trips during the year too.

What sort of activities happen on camp?

Cubs: On camp we do a number of activities normally based around badges that have been decided by the leaders. On summer camp there is usually a day outing where they go to the beach/zoo/leisure centre. A number of games can also take place throughout the camp and depending on the weather most of these take place outdoors.

Scouts: On scout camp most years we base our summer camp around boating and obtaining different boating qualifications. We also have a number of different games and activities, in previous years we have played plate golf, assault course competitions between patrols and individuals. On all the camps the scouts have to cook there own meals on gas cookers. On some overnight camps they may use an open fire to cook meals.

Can Girls Join Too?

Yes, we are actively encouraging girls to join.

Can I become a Leader?

Most leaders are ex-scouts, or cubs, some of the female leaders have come across from brownies and guides. The best thing to do to become a leader is to go and visit your local group and ask them. You have to go through a couple of training courses, including First Aid if you wish to become a warranted leader.
